Is Well Dweller Hard? Difficulty Settings Explained

What the difficulty settings actually do

Kyle Thompson answered this on the Steam forum during the demo: "difficulty settings actually don't affect enemy/player damage at all." Enemies and bosses deal the same damage on every preset. What changes is each attack — how many projectiles, how fast and how long, how quickly an enemy reacts and how long the gap between attacks is. Hard is therefore a pattern-reading test, not a longer health bar.

How it compares

Where players get stuck

Trinkets that make fights easier — Blue Bow (auto-heal once instead of dying), Melted Candle (invincibility after healing) and Silver Spoon (barrier while healing) — are on the trinkets page.

Difficulty questions

Is Well Dweller harder than Hollow Knight or Silksong?

No. Players on the Steam forum consistently place it below Silksong, and the developer describes it as not brutally difficult. Bosses still take several attempts, especially on Hard.

What do the difficulty settings change?

Attack patterns only. The developer confirmed damage is the same on every setting; lower settings mean fewer projectiles, slower or shorter attacks, slower enemy reactions and longer gaps between attacks.

Can I change difficulty mid-game?

Yes. Difficulty and assist options are in the Gameplay section of the options menu, which the developer pointed a struggling player to during the demo.

Can I skip cutscenes?

Yes — hold the interact button. A prompt in the bottom-right corner shows the skip.
